MODULES FOR SCHOOL AND COLLEGES

 

Theme “Raising Responsible, Peace-Building and Visionary Student Leaders”

 

Target Group:

 

  • School Council
  • Prefects / Captains
  • Class Monitors
  • Student Mediators / Peer Counselors

 

  1. Training Objectives

 

By the end of the program, participants should be able to:

 

  • Demonstrate effective leadership and mediation skills in school governance.
  • Manage peer conflicts peacefully through structured mediation.
  • Model integrity, discipline, and servant leadership.
  • Promote teamwork, academic excellence, and positive school culture.
  • Engage with school administration in participatory decision-making.

 

  1. Training Duration and Structure

 

Duration: 2 to 3 days (can be residential or non-residential)

 

Format: Interactive sessions, simulations, case studies, and field assignments

 

Sample Schedule

Module 1: Foundations of Leadership

 

Topics

 

  • Understanding leadership (Servant Leadership Model)
  • Roles and responsibilities of prefects and council members
  • Character, discipline, and integrity
  • Biblical principles of leadership (e.g., Matthew 20:26–28)

 

Practical Activity

“Leadership in Action” workshop: Each participant lists one leadership problem in school and proposes a solution plan.

 

 

Module 2: Effective Communication and Public Speaking

 

Topics

 

Active listening and empathy

 

Assertive vs aggressive communication

 

Public speaking and confidence building

 

 

Practical Activity

 

Speech challenge: “If I were the Head Prefect for a day…”

 

Pair role plays on student–teacher communication

 

Module 3: Mediation and Conflict Management

 

Topics

 

  • Understanding conflict and its causes in school
  • Mediation process and steps (Grip Africa’s 5-Step Model)
  • Emotional intelligence and managing anger
  • Building trust among peers

 

 

Practical Activities

 

  • Mediation simulation: resolving a dormitory or classroom dispute
  • Conflict mapping exercise

 

Module 4: Team Building and Collaboration

 

Topics

 

  • Importance of unity among school leaders
  • Roles of teamwork in achieving goals
  • Building inclusive leadership

 

Practical Activities

 

  • Outdoor trust games
  • Group challenge: design a “Student Council Action Plan” for the term

 

Module 5: Personal Leadership and Vision

 

Topics

 

  • Self-awareness and values
  • Setting personal goals
  • Time management and discipline

 

Practical Activities

 

  • “My Leadership Vision Board” session
  • Personal growth reflection journal

 

Module 6: Leadership in Service

 

Topics

 

  • Servant leadership in action
  • Mentoring juniors
  • Upholding school culture and code of conduct

 

Practical Activities

 

  • “Leadership for Impact” project – small community service within the school
  • Mentorship pairing: each leader mentors one Form 1 student

 

  1. Expected Outcomes

 

After training, student leaders will:

 

  • Form a Peer Mediation Club under Grip Africa mentorship.
  • Develop a School Leadership Charter to guide student governance.
  • Implement monthly mediation forums for conflict prevention.
  • Receive a Certificate of Leadership and Mediation Competence from Grip Africa.
