Gitau Charles Kabata
My name is Gitau Charles Kabata, a teacher of sports by profession, with a thirty three years of experience in teaching, of which seventeen as a teacher trainer and sixteen as a secondary school teacher.
Training in life (soft) skills is one area I’m very passionate about, using what I refer to as thematic games as a unique approach of impacting the same. This is an area I have worked with the ministry of Education and the US-AID over ten years. Coaching and instructing in swimming and athletics are other area I’m very passionate about. Some of my swimmers have represented Kenyan secondary schools swimming team in East Africa secondary schools swimming championships, while in athletics, some of the teachers trainees have been offered sports scholarships specifically in USA.
I am also very passionate about Physical Health and Fitness and to promote the same, in the community, I have a group of women who meet at least three days per week for physical fitness workouts. I have also come up with what I refer to as the Tea Zone challenge, which is a saturday morning hike across the various tea farms around Tigoni area.
Over the holidays I do organize holiday swimming camp that brings together children between the age of four and thirteen years. There is also room for the grown-ups to be trained in swimming.
As an advocate for child’s play, I organize for Fun Activities bringing together children and parents with only one agenda, and that is, to have fun. I also do team building mainly in schools and churches. The main aim is to help appreciate unity in diversity and the fact that every one of us requires other people’s input for one to be complete and at the same for those others also to be complete.
As a lover of nature, I once in a while organize nature walks and takes the opportunity to sensitize the participants on man’s oneness with nature and as a therapy in maintaining the man’s natural balance.
It also gives me a lot of pleasure spending time with young people interacting on issues touching on our day to day life and thus equipping and empowering them for the same. By so doing, they are able to conquer their limits in life thus enabling them to experience more freedom in their day to day life. This has been my motivation in writing on various life issues.
I am also a firm believer and advocate of the whole person education as opposed to an education approach where by, passing of exam is the greatest motivation in one’s pursuit of knowledge and where learning is seen as a classroom activity under the tutorage of a teacher.
It is my great pleasure every time I see someone realize a better version of themselves because of my input in their lives or when I help them discover what they have in their possession and at their disposal, and how to make use of the same for a worthy cause in the promotion of humanity.
I believe I’m alive today to serve a specific purpose in my generation and by so doing I’m being part of the solution. I carry my life as an open book readily available for them who care to read.
I’m a firm believer in the family unit ensuring quality time each day with my family when it’s practically possible. Jogging for fun and fitness is a key component of my lifestyle. Capturing conversations in my mind through writing is an integral part of my life. Finally I’m an advocate of the natural diet.
