Ms Esther Muchiri
Wakili Esther Muchiri, is a PhD legal scholar at the University of Nairobi currently working as the Acting Chairperson, Kirinyaga County Public Service Board, the Legal Advisor to the 47 County Public Service Boards National Consultative Forum (NCF-CPSBs), and a Steering Committee Member representing Kirinyaga County Public Service Board to the NCF- CPSBs. Ms. Esther is a Law Teacher at Catholic University of Eastern Africa, the founder and the Managing Partner in the Firm of Esther Muchiri & Co. Advocates with over 13 years working experience in different sectors and a guest service lecturer at the University of Nairobi. Wakili Esther is the award winner for the award; the most innovative, industry oriented Lecturer of the Year, 2023.
Ms. Esther is extremely passionate about serving and advancing the lives of others through Community service as a member of Rotary International and specifically the women and Young people both at school and at community level. She proudly and passionately serves as a mentor, inspiration and guide to most women and young people especially students and post-school youth that have had the privilege of interacting with her.
Ms. Esther is the founding Patron of the most active club in CUEA, Cuea Law Firm Club and Cuea Ajira Digital Club. The two clubs have been able to distinctively engage and advance the employability knowledge, research and skills of the young people, students and women in the society by inviting, collaborating, linking and partnering with industry players hence exposing our young people to the professional world, create linkages, advance talents and careers.
Ms. Esther’s remarkable leadership track record includes currently serving as the Chairperson, Electoral Commission of Catholic University of Eastern Africa since year 2021 where she has overseen the transitions in the University student leadership with the most recent ones having been sworn in last month. She serves as an advisory Board Member at the Committee of Fiscal Studies at the University of Nairobi and at Vijana Tubonge Initiative, a youth led organization based in Kirinyaga County that deals all matters young people in Kenya.
She is PhD researcher at the University of Nairobi specializing in international and domestic taxation and technology law. She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) (UoN) specializing in Law, Governance and Democracy, and a Bachelor of Laws Degree (BU). Ms. Esther won a scholarship to pursue a Master of Science in International Trade Policy and Development (University of Lund) after emerging the overall best rated student in Africa from the class of 2020-2021 in Trapca-ESAMI in International Trade Law and Policy Development. Ms. Esther is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, holds a Post-Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law and have been consulted, and trained in East Africa Community and beyond, and is a re-known international researcher.
Ms. Esther holds a certificate in Leadership and Management from Makerere University, has undergone extensive training in the same area of leadership, negotiating collective Bargain agreements in the Public Service among others at the Kenya School of Government. She is an expert in taxation and technology laws, research, devolution and constitutional laws, civil litigation, employment and labour relations matters, conveyancing and property law, legal and policy drafting, international and municipal commercial laws, international trade, International investment and economic laws, mergers and acquisition, negotiations etc.
She has been involved in the formulation of various bills, regulations, policies and cabinet papers that became effective both at national and county government levels. Ms. Esther’s excellent legal training, innovative and mentorship methods has impacted greatly on the lives of all. Esther is keen on research based approach lecturing and mentorship that encourages and stimulates critical thinking which is intended to build students research and innovation skills and boost confidence in their presentation skills. She has a collaborative innovative teaching method that incorporates mental health awareness discussions, the need for self-care and anti- addiction and how to fight off depression and other life skills. Esther is passionate about mentorship in guiding women and young people of life choices which includes career choices, the need positive mindset in professional advancement, young/student support programs and ways to secure employment after school.
